چکیده

Leaves from the plants of Thaumatococcus daniellii and Musa paradisiaca are used for wrapping foods in Ghana. In this study, types phytochemicals present two leaves were qualitatively determined. Standard qualitative phytochemical tests by Trease Evans, Sofowora Harborne employed screening ten selected phytochemicals. The following T. leaf extracts; saponins, polyuronides, phenolic compounds, reducing sugars, alkaloids, flavonoids, cyanogenic glycosides, phytosterols anthracenosides. However, triterpenes absent. M. also showed presence sugar, flavonoids phytosterols. anthracenosides From results obtained, contained more classes healthful than that paradisiaca. Since, both contribute just a means packaging to these local delicacies, their continued use should be highly encouraged widely promoted.

Evaluation of wound healing activity of extracts of plantain banana (Musa sapientum var. paradisiaca) in rats.

Plantain banana (M. sapientum var. paradisiaca, MS) has been shown to possess ulcer healing activity. The present work with plantain banana was undertaken with the premise that the drug promoting ulcer healing could have effect on wound healing also. Wound healing activity of MS was studied in terms of (i) percent wound contraction, epithelization period and scar area; (ii) wound breaking stren...

Biochemical Effects in Normal and Stone Forming Rats Treated with the Ripe Kernel Juice of Plantain (musa Paradisiaca)

The effect of Musa paradisiaca stem kernel juice was investigated in experimental urolithiatic rats. Stone forming rats exhibited a significant elevation in the activities of two oxalate synthesizing enzymes - Glycollic acid oxidase and Lactate dehydrogenase. Deposition and excretion of stone forming constituents in kidney and urine were also increased in these rats. The enzyme activities and t...
